Symerclean® SYMERCLEAN® —— PHBV Bio-based Antibacterial Fiber
Symerclean® Bio-based antibacterial fiber is an antimicrobial material free of heavy metals. It is achieved by incorporating an organic antimicrobial material (PHBV) derived from corn extract during the polyester spinning process.
【Production Method】:
PHBV, also known as polyhydroxybutyrate and polyhydroxyvalerate, is primarily produced from glucose made of corn starch through fermentation by specific microorganisms, and then PHBV (similar to fat in mammals) is extracted from the microorganisms' bodies. The modified PHBV is blended with modified PET to produce PHBV-modified masterbatch. This masterbatch is added to PET and then spun through melt spinning to obtain Symerclean® Bio-based antibacterial fiber.
【Antibacterial Mechanism】:
The mechanism of this bio-based antibacterial fiber is that PHBV decomposes during the melt spinning process to form the low-oligomer OPHB. It is a non-leaching bio-based antimicrobial agent with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antiviral effects. It can destroy the cell membranes of bacteria and the envelope structures of viruses, thereby effectively killing bacteria and viruses.
